Lennie cannot survive without George due to him being childlike with unawareness of what is right and what is wrong. Proof of this is the story of George and Lennie in Weed when Lennie went to feel a little girl’s dress. Any man his age and pretty much teenagers and young couples would know that so much as grabbing on to someone, feeling a person’s material or actually feeling a person can be taken as an assault by the person getting touched like this and others who witnessed it. If George had not been in Weed to bail Lennie out, then Lennie would most likely be arrested. He could even have been killed for assault when really in his occasion he was not trying to rape the little girl. Another example is the fact that Lennie is always getting into trouble causing both himself and George to lose job opportunities. If George was not with Lennie he would have a better chance of keeping his job and if managed would be less stressed out and would not have to moving all over the place to try to keep a job. The reason I believe this is because George seems to be the only one of the two who has actual common sense. The final example is the fact that George has to both feed Lennie and keep him from getting in trouble. George seems like a supervisor to Lennie who sees George as a role model. For George of course it is hard to keep Lennie out of trouble especially when Lennie has a short term memory and does not know the responsibilities of an adult. In conclusion Lennie may be good at his job but his lack of intelligence and his actions is exactly what is going to keep him from getting a job so it is true that Lennie Small cannot survive without George Milton to bail him out of troubles and get him job opportunities.
